Scholar Bowl Team Reaches Semi-finals in District; Zamora Named To All-District Team

The Pattonsburg scholar bowl team played at the District Tournament at Princeton on Saturday, April 14. Team members participating were Madison Hulett, Sofia Nunn, Grace Warner, and Jackson Zamora. As usual, participating teams played three round-robin games to determine placement in the tournament. The Panthers first faced an old opponent from HDC days, Winston. Although they kept close in the first quarter, Pattonsburg was outscored in the subsequent quarters and ended with a loss of 320 to 80. In the second game, Pattonsburg played Princeton. This was a close game with the Panthers trailing by only a few questions throughout the match, although Princeton stayed ahead to win by 30 points, 150 to 180. In the third round-robin game, Pattonsburg played East Harrison, and was defeated, 80-260.

However, with only four teams participating in district play, the Panthers still had another chance to play, facing Winston again in a semifinal match. This competition was closer, but Winston still managed to win, 80-130. This eliminated Pattonsburg from the tournament.  Winston was tournament champion.

Scoring during the day's matches were Jackson Zamora with 240 points, Sofia Nunn with 40 points, and Grace Warner with 20 points. Jackson was named to the All-District team, receiving a medal for his scoring success in the tournament.  Gregg Hartley served as team coach throughout the season.
